Virtual Academy for Overcoming Global Poverty (VAOGP)

LemonAid Fund is hosting the Virtual Academy for Overcoming Global Poverty (VAOGP) which is designed to address poverty in all its efforts whether in the USA or internationally.  The focus of VAOGP is to form partnerships with individuals and groups (LemonAid Fund) to develop best practices through synergy of multiple resources that together form solutions to global poverty that could not be achieved by one single resource.
VAOGP intends to do more than to develop well intentioned efforts to address the global issues of poverty, but rather to form alliances between groups of people that will yield solutions that match the culture of the groups we want to impact. Many are already engaged in a variety of community outreach efforts and VAOGP can help to more efficiently coordinate and expand these efforts.
VAOGP is engaged in developing and evaluating efforts to overcome global poverty through the implementation of educational opportunities, community outreach, and research.  It is time to break through the barriers that have prevented meaningful and widespread impact on this critical and chronic social issue.

LemonAid Fund and VAOGP Join Efforts Toward Vision One Million FGA

In July/August of 2019 LemonAid Fund will work with VAOGP in Popayan, Colombia to train teachers who have previously been trained by VAOGP in a new approach: the Forgiveness, Gratitude and Appreciation (FGA) Resiliency and Well-Being Approach. Much of the content of the FGA training has been translated into Spanish during LemonAid Fund's work in Nicaragua and was evaluated as culturally inclusive.

The psychosocial FGA work is at the basis of teachers being able to be better teachers and children able to be better learners.  It helps remove the hurts/trauma/betrayals that weigh down the mind and body so a person is able to summon its spirit to its best self.  When these troubles are removed a child has increased concentration, less violent outbursts, less stress, more stamina and less health issues that all add up to better school performance leading to the possibility of greater economic abilities as they become adults.

The cost of the 12 day training of 25 trainers, over 100 trainees and 500 school going children is only $8,000. All the teachers, leaders and children will be volunteering their time to make this important work happen in Columbia. LemonAid Fund appreciates your support toward bringing FGA to a new country.

Teacher Training Popayán, Colombia

In the summers of 2017 and 2018 the teacher training expanded on the original work began in  the summer of 2016, when we provided technology and general teacher training in the schools located in Popayán, Colombia. In 2019, LemonAid Fund funded multiple FGA trainings led by Dr. Nancy Peddle to some who had been attending trainings over the years and some new teachers, parents and even children.

The training in 2016 occurred over the period of three weeks, with one weeks of workshops and hands on training followed by two weeks of follow up in the schools of interested teachers. We hope to find funding to support travel and accommodations to continue the training in the summer of 2017. The teachers were extremely grateful for the opportunity to learn techniques that would help their students succeed.
Translated from an article in a local Popayán newspaper July 2016
It was very important for teachers in the municipality of Popayán to have had the opportunity to participate in the training week provided by the teachers: Dr Marlene Cohen, David Tormo, Daniel Cohen, Chelsea Cohen, and through this we learned about new methodologies For teaching not only English but also in different areas.
It is noteworthy that through the presentations and materials shared by the counselors, we broadened our knowledge about new methodologies for the development of basic skills in our students and learned various techniques and educational resources and on the Use of ICTs; Which has made it possible to make teaching a more pleasant and dynamic experience for children, facilitating the learning process in our schools.
We were fortunate to have the visit of the guiding teachers in our Institution Educational Mirador, fact that was motivating not only for us as teachers but also for our students, as they dialogued with them and answered some of their concerns. In addition, after the personalized attention provided by some of the students, pedagogical recommendations were made for the attention of the children with special educational needs and observations to be taken into account in our Institutional Improvement Plan in the pedagogical and managerial component, in order to To provide comprehensive training for our students.
For all the above, we exalt the work done by the American teachers in the municipality of Popayán and we hope to continue orienting more training processes that allow us to update our knowledge and thus improve our educational practices, as we know of their great training background as professionals and as individuals And of the many significant pedagogical experiences they possess and allow us to advance in our desire to raise the academic level of our students in Popayan.

Technology Training Rural South Africa

Picture

In May, 2016, we provided two weeks of technology training in rural schools of Kruger National Park, South Africa. We have been collecting data on the utility of the original training through measurement of data used per week by each school through the Fine MS system. The team has requested a follow up visit for 2017. Teachers are now integrating technology into the classroom. We hope to continue to advance their skills to expand the educational opportunities for this group of students and teachers.

Here is a note from a member of the Ximhungwe Circuit Schools:
Thanks a lot for all the effort of wiping away ignorance which is one of our greatest enemy for our educators in the use of ICT for effective teaching and learning. Your interaction with the schools has put a serious impact and thanks for the very informative report. Not forgetting to appreciate the commitment of Mandla and Roux.
Kind regards,
Lorna @ Department of Education
