Technical Expertise

Our technical expertise allows us to aid in projects and programs that contribute to the education and health, as well as the social, economic and cultural development of children, families and communities.
The technical assistance we provide brings out the inspired ideas and innovative practices supported by the people who are most affected. We join with individuals, communities and organizations to give technical assistance and support ideas that are chosen, designed, implemented and evaluated with the participation of those who will primarily benefit from those actions.
A month in the life of Dr. Peddle
Dr. Peddle spends much of her time attending meetings, leading workshops, supervising projects, providing assistance in writing grants, and discussing strategies for positive change with the UN, government and non-governmental organizations (NGO). For example, in a three-week period, Dr. Peddle provided UNICEF with expertise on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), was an invited expert to run a small group discussion on issues of FGM related to povery in a conference organized by Poverty in Action an International NGO and attended the International NGO meeting where she is also on the leadership group to improve its organization. She also worked with two LemonAid Fund international volunteers to implement their activities while in Sierra Leone, visited three schools to check on the quality of the programs and the needs of the Proprietresses and gave support to the Aberdeen Women's Center's Glady Glady celebration of women who had fistula repairs. Over that same three weeks, Dr. Peddle helped an organization write a grant to the US Government, stopped in at the Ministry of Social Welfare to gain support for the PeaceJoyMobile and met with the forgiveness team to get ready for their visit to Stanford University in thee US.
It is not only Nancy that provides technical expertise but also the many talented Trustees and volunteers that we have. For instance, Vicki Browne volunteer came to Sierra Leone wanting to use her nursing skills. LemonAid Fund put her right to work on a commmunity mothers' health educational seminar, which was attended by a group of 15 mothers or expectant mothers ranging in age from 17-32. Nancy, Kathleen and Vicki led the discussions that included: prevention/treatment of fistulas, nutrition, cultural myths, sanitation, breastfeeding and colic intervention. The program helped to enhance parenting skills as well as facilitate camaraderie among these young mothers. Knowledge is power and the LemonAid Fund helps provide knowledge through discussions, mentorships and seminars.
